The chart indicates the trend of birth and death rates in New Zealand from 1901 till present and projects it toward 2101.
It is apparent that the birth rate has been marked higher than death rate since 1901 till now. The six decades witnessed a surge in birth rate, with 20,000 in 1901, reaching to its peak of 66,000 in 1961. Even though there wasan steep fall to 50, 000 in 1981, it recovered to 60,000 in 1991. Since then there has been a constant decline, which is set to experience a slowdown, reaching 50,000 in 2101.
In contrast, having started from below 10, 000, the death rate has kept a sustained increase up to now. Since then, it is extrapolated to surge to 60, 000 till the mid-22rd century, followed by a flattening out.
It is also clearly revealed that 2041 will mark a crossover of both rates, since when the birth rate is forecast to exceed considerably the death rate.
