今天这篇推送，我们关注电影《长津湖》。一起来看——
War epic 'The Battle at Lake Changjin' tops $100m, breaking box office records
战争大片《长津湖》突破1亿美元票房纪录
epic在这里是表示史诗般的电影（小说等作品），比如：
一部关于圣经体裁的好莱坞巨片 a Hollywood biblical epic
epic还有一种比较幽默的用法，比如前几年我们常说的“看病难、看病贵”的问题，当时，去医院看病是一件特别耗时费力的事情，我们就可以用上这个epic来点讽刺：
The business of getting hospital treatment was an epic.
这部电影的英文名The Battle at Lake Changjin，想强调两点，一个是英文标题的大小写规则。一般来说，字母少于五个的介词或连词、冠词都是需要小写的，除非上述词出现在标题的第一个或最后一个单词的位置。所以你会看到The Battle at Lake Changjin, at小写了。
另一个是at。我们都知道at后面可以跟具体的地点，它和in+地点的区别在于，at后面往往跟的是一个非常具体的小地点，比如at the airport, at the hospital.
top及物动词，to be higher than a particular amount 高于，超过（某一数量），比如：
Worldwide sales look set to top $1 billion. 全球销售额看来很可能要超过10亿元。
近义词比如exceed, surpass。
top还可以表示登顶：to be in the highest position on a list because you are the most successful, important, etc. 居…之首；为…之冠
The band topped the charts for five weeks with their first single. 这支乐队的第一张单曲唱片有五个星期高居最畅销流行音乐唱片榜榜首。
The Chinese historical film "The Battle at Lake Changjin" has exceeded 700 million yuan ($108 million) at the box office as of Saturday morning, the second day of China's National Day holiday, according to ticketing platform Maoyan, breaking 11 Chinese film industry records.
据票务平台猫眼称，截至周六上午，即中国国庆长假的第二天上午，中国历史电影《长津湖》票房已超过 7 亿元人民币（1.08 亿美元），打破了 11 项中国电影业纪录。
这句话不难，我们就关注“打破纪录”这个表达break records，动词还可以用smash：
smash a record: to do something much faster, better etc than anyone has done before打破纪录
The film smashed all box office records. 这部影片打破了所有的票房纪录。
也可以用set，表示创下纪录。
It garnered over $31 million on its debut on September 30, which coincided with China's eighth Martyrs' Day to pay tribute to fallen national heroes. It took in $63 million the next day when the Chinese people celebrated the National Day, the highest ever single-day box office takings during the National Day holidays.

获得多少票房，本段第一句用了garner获得，及物动词。我们之前还总结过其他可用的动词，比如rake in. 前两年很火的一部国产动画片《大圣归来》，外媒有句报道是这样写的：
The animation film raked in RMB 200m in six days just by word-of-mouth praise, setting a record for homemade animation.大圣归来依靠口碑传播，6天票房破2亿，创造了国产动画电影的一个纪录。
下一句中的take in也是可以的：PHRASAL VERB If a shop, restaurant, theatre, or other business takes in a certain amount of money, they get that amount from people buying goods or services. 收入
名词的话，taking表示收入，而且作这个词义的时候一般是用复数的：the amount of money earned by a business from the sale of goods or services 进款，收入，比如：
The big test for the shop’s new look is whether it will boost takings 对这家商店新面貌最大的检验就是它能否增加收入。
还有另一个动词可以表示获得多少票房：gross。to gain an amount as a total profit, or earn it as a total amount, before tax has been taken away获得…的总利润[毛利，税前收入]
The movie has already grossed over $10 million. 这部电影票房总收入已经超过1,000万美元。
电影+gross+金额，可以表达某部电影的票房达到多少。
比如前几年《复联4》这部电影创下了史上最高票房，可以是the highest-grossing作形容词定语，看这句报道：
The latest Marvel movie is the last in their epic 22-film series, the industry's highest-grossing franchise of all time.
fallen的这个词义平时可能见得比较少：( formal ) ( of a soldier 士兵 ) killed in a war 阵亡的。

The cast is led by Chinese actors Wu Jing, Jackson Yee, Zhu Yawen, Li Chen, Hu Jun and Duan Yihong, all household names in China.
该片由中国著名电影人陈凯歌、徐克、林超贤共同执导，是中国电影史上制作规模最大、参与人数最多的电影。吴京、易烊千玺、朱亚文、李晨、胡军和段奕宏知名演员领衔主演。
说这个演员很有名，household name，name表示名人。我们还可以说这些是一线演员：A-lister，比如另一篇关于《长津湖》的英文影评：
It features a stellar cast of A-listers and several promising young actors.
cast这个词表示全体演员，这个都知道哈？来几个常见搭配加深记忆：
members of the cast 剧组成员
全明星阵容 an all-star cast，意思就是including many well-known actors
配角演员the supporting cast
演员表a cast list
The whole cast performs/perform brilliantly. 全体演员都表现出色。
注意此时cast作为一个整体，搭配的谓语用单复数均可。

It recounts the story of CPV soldiers fighting in freezing temperatures in a key campaign around Changjin Lake, or Chosin Reservoir, in the northern part of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in 1950.

follow这里的词义可以记一下：.[ VN ] to be concerned with the life or development of sb/sth 涉及…生活；有关…发展，经常跟着书啊电影啊故事啊这些主语，比如：
The novel follows the fortunes of a village community in Scotland. 小说叙述了苏格兰一个村落的变迁。
The book follows the life and career of Henry Clay. 这本书讲述亨利·克莱的生活和事业。
还有下一句的recount：[ V speech ] ~ sth (to sb) ( formal ) to tell sb about sth, especially sth that you have experienced 讲述，叙述（亲身经历）
They recounted what had happened during those years. 他们叙述了那些年里发生的事。
It has so far scored 7.6 out of 10 points on Douban, the Chinese version of Rotten Tomatoes.
