Central Question

This chapter mainly tells readers that Wang Anshih' reform started fierce party strife at imperial court.During this political battle , Wang Anshih together with his underlings cashiered,degraded,dismissed and punished imperial sensors and officals who defied his policy,which thrown the court into an uproar.I think the author intends to highligt SuTung po's forthright,intrepid courage and also the profound effect the political battle has on offical career.

Su Tungpo was getting hot under the collar.(觉得这句话写的很形象啊)

Fat and soft in appearance,he had the strength of steel in his character.外柔内刚

In their earlier days Wang and Lu had divided literary honours and the admiration of scholars.(平分秋色)

One cannot ,furthermore ,escape the conclusion that when there are no fearless critics of the government in times of peace,there will also be no national heroes  willing to die for the country in times of trouble.(佩服苏东坡的真知灼见,想起了在第一章里面最后一句话，Today it may be said

that he was truly a modern man.)

其实对政治历史的东西不是特别感冒，这两章其实也没怎么读的懂，不过对王安石有了新的印象，想不到堂堂的大文豪竟然是个邋遢鬼还是一头犟牛，it is easy to believe that a man so absorbed in his ideas was naturally negligent of his external looks.同时也感受到了党争之惨烈以及苏东坡的正直勇敢。

cashier: verb,dismiss sb or  to make sb leave the army,navy,etc.because they have done sth wrong终止职务，开除军队

eg:The team owner had been cashiered for consorting with a gambler.
