The Bridge
by Shuang Yi
You bow down from the other side, heels rooted in earth
Your back is naked and chapped but carries all the world's drifters
The fingers, once drew on the ground, now insert into the banks to catch the roamers on this side
Dry lips kisses the rocks, waiting in silence, thousand years like a single day
The tidal waves fiercely rushing, carrying gravels and filth, roaring with tons of accusations
Intending to overtop your shoulder and wash away the travelers
But you arch up your body, letting the stormy waves through, leaving your ribs scarred
The bowing posture turns into a rainbow on the ground
An ancient oath, to be solemnly kept, for ever and ever
