China Dream

I think everyone has the experience in our childhood:being asked “what’s your dream?” and we naively and proudly said: “a scientistof course”. However, when it comes to the topic China Dream, I feel thatthousands of shining shells dancing with sea waves in my brain, becausemultiple dots could be connected together to weave the blueprint of what mightbe called the China Dream.

As a Chinese, I am a witnesser and a practitioner inthe pursuit of our China Dream. And as a student, I am a beneficiary in thepursuit of the dream of a more deep-going educational reform. So I just pick upone of the dreaming shells and try my best to give an all-round admiration toher charm.

First is about connecting the dots. There were good timesof knowledge boom. Though I was not lucky enough to be one of the 3000 spongerssolicited by lao-tzu, or one of the dreamers in the vocational educationinstitution emerged in modern times, I did crossed the single-plank bridge ofthe college entrance examination resumed since the reform and opening up, and Istill stick up to pursue my studies in postgraduate stage. I believe that thedots will make me strong enough to make difference on the way to realize mydream.

However, many criticized that the huge gap between thewealthy and the poor in modern China makes it impossible to realize educationequality. We accept the point, but it’s only one side of the coin. China is farfrom perfect but she is trying to address the many problems that do exist.

Since 2003, the Education Aid Programme has set itssail, and thousands of schools called the Hope Project were born all over thecountry. Do you still remember the scene in MoveChina 2011: 30 pupils pushed Bai Fangli’s dilapidated tricycle up to the awardsceremony. The tricycle was used to carry students to go to school before hisdeath, but was filled with white carnations that Bai was no longer ableto see any more. All the house rose; all the audience applause; all theblossoms bloom!

In 2004, the Rural Education Action Project initiatedby Hubei province emerged. As an undergraduate student of Hubei NormalUniversity before, I was one of the students who volunteer for teaching inrural areas of Hubei as my internship. For three months, I lived and laughedwith my students in Tianmen Middle School; for three months, I looked intothose pure eyes and amazed by the power of their thirst for knowledge; forthree months, I saw the bright future of China that all the beautiful flowersin my garden were in full bloom!

So that’s the real story of today’s China, aprogressing and promising adolescent who is struggling to realize her dream. Westudents, as practitioners of China Dream, should stride forward confidently tobe a doer in weaving the blueprint of our China Dream!
