A Milestone for Yanbin

Presentation

Yanbin's Marketing class ended today with a team presentation. I visited to see his performance. Even though he thought it was unnecessary to record a video, I wanted to do it. It will be a great memory when we look back years later.

English continues to be a big barrier that he hopes to conquer. In the beginning of the semester, all the lecturing, reading, writing and presentations almost overwhelmed him. This gave his academic life a really difficult start. And yet he made it through.

He has put in a tremendous amount of effort into this class, in particular. There were loads of new terms to learn and use. We spent a few full weekends dissecting videos together that the teacher asked the students to watch. When their project team got stuck, he took over the leadership and led the team to complete projects on schedule. He worked on project researches and survey making and gathering. He spents endless hours making and refining the presentations. He communicated with other team members to make sure everyone's aligned. It was incredible.

He still has a long way to go, in English and many others. During his presentation. I can see that he was struggling to figure out what words to say (he used some very advance words actually!), and sometimes even how to put together a sentence. But it is not something that can't be conquered, because that's what I've been through as well.

I think today marked a great milestone for Yanbin. Even though he may not think that way ;)
