The words light me up today:
1, "In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the L. And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The L looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast." - Genesis 4:3-5
Through these words make me know that offering to the L is from our heart and attitude, not just from our outside or materials. And sacrifice is offered according to G's will, not according to our own will. This viewpoint has helped me better understand some of the relationships between work or life. Sometimes, we feel that I'm very good to him/her, or that I have already given him/her the best. If we truly have love, sincerity, and respect for others from the inner of our hearts, truly considering others benefits, they can feel it especially in relationships. This is subtle but also very real. External and material are really not core factors. If the relationship is not based on core elements such as love, sincerity, and respect......., material things can actually make the other person feel pressured. Establishing relationships starts from the heart and is the interaction of the heart. Material is the icing on the cake.
2, "Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.” - Genesis 4:8
"The L said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand." - Genesis 4:11-12
"Lamech said to his wives, “Adah and Zillah, listen to me; wives of Lamech, hear my words. I have killed a man for wounding me, a young man for injuring me." - Genesis 4:23
These three scriptures show that how the natural sinfulness of human nature is transmitted through one person to the entire family, and then extended and passed down to the descendants of the family. This is a serious impact, but it starts with a seemingly small sin of "jealousy" from a human perspective. Just because the L favor on Abel and his offering, Cain and his offering did not look with favor. Cain started jealousy from his heart, and take action killed his brother, and not only does he have to bear the consequences of being cursed. He also brought this curse, sin, and violence to his entire family and descendants. So today I have come to such a profound and clear understanding that sin has no size, any sin is not a small matter and needs to be taken seriously. So it's a great honor and grace for us to live in the power of G's forgiveness of sins through the L's died.
3, Noah, Ark and the Flood - Genesis 6:9-21
Read the story of Noah's Ark again bring me four insights:
Frist, G always does things through people. He always picks the right people first, and then does things.
"Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with G." - Genesis 6:9
Second, G is the initiator of events, the purpos and plan of G, and G's thoughts lead the way, not human's. Many times, human self-center always brings us unnecessary troubles. Because often is our own thoughts, plans and purpos, then force G to walk behind us and achieve what we want. This kind of thinking often gets us into trouble, but we even complain about why G does not achieve such things. I also paid the price for this leason, This is the price of growth. But the following words clearly tells me that He is the proactive initiator.
"G said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth." - Genesis 6:13
Third, G always makes it so clear to people what he is doing! What people need to do and how to do it.
"So make yourself an ark of cypress wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high. Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit high all around. I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it." - Genesis 6:14-17
Fourthly, Noah's listening, obedience, humility, and action.
"Noah did everything just as G commanded him." - Genesis 6:22
