Hacksaw Ridge, the greatest war movie ever

It's hard to tell the mixed feelings after watching the film. Laughing at the beginning, crying with tears till the last minute. It's rather shocking that the movie was adapted from a true story that actually happened during war. The hero of the movie, Desmond T. Doss, adored by millions of people, is a real hero himself. Among the not many war movies I've seen, this one is undoubtedly the most unforgettable of all. Regardless of the special effects and shooting skills, the plot itself can connect the audience with the scene. Many thanks to the director, the same person who shot the epic movie Brave Heart.  Everything comes for a reason. The tough soldier full of hatred and anger towards Doss at the start was abandoned by his biological mother at a very young age. The hero, a man with clear-cut stand and belief but refused to hold a gun was greatly influenced by his father, who was accustomed to domestic violence. The image of the father is quite sharp-cut, a “veteran” alcoholic because of the loss of his beloved comrades. It’s really complicated when it comes to the father's mindset. Deep down, he loves his sons but doesn’t know how to express himself. The influence imposed upon him and his own life experience was deeply embedded in his mind, which determined his will towards anti-use of guns.  It’s more than unbelievable that the hero himself alone saved 75 lives without a single moment of using a weapon. His nightmare indeed frightened me and the other audiences at the theater. What the war brought to these soldiers were not only the glories but more of post-traumatic stress disorder. The greatest lofty value of the hero is not only his belief of saving people’s lives, but also the equal treatment towards all the wounded ones even including the enemy. To be honest, I kind of wanted to see him fight against those who beat him and humiliated him. But it turned out to be his calm response to this brutal act that touched me most. He didn’t want to prove his innocence and sincerity to anyone but himself. The Bible, the god and all lofty beliefs are already deeply rooted in his heart. The true belief is reflected inside instead of outside. Let your conscience be your guide and ignore others' bias. And it was exactly this kind of faith that led him to the gallant deed of saving other people’s lives in the rain of bullets. The words murmured in his mouth while he was struggling with his already exhausted body was “let me save one more, one more…” It’s far from enough to define his behavior as “brave”. On the battle field, there is no time and no chance for you to show mercy.  Compared with the modern peaceful age, hypocrisy is rampant all over the world, be it the business field or even our daily normal life. My former impression or stereotype towards soldiers is rather unjust. This movie was refreshment to me and perhaps to numerous people like me. Whatever the circumstances are, do leave at least a slight of faith and belief.
