When I heard the name of the road, ‘The Beautiful Road in Nujiang’, I thought it might have been so named because of the plants on the both sides of the road. I didn’t have much expectation, as I always believed the most beautiful road I had ever seen were the roads across the mountains of Switzerland, which I visited 7 years ago.
During the winter holidays, my brother-in-law took myself and the boys to see the Beautiful Road in Nujiang, which is a beautiful highway and is located in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province. When we arrived at the road, I was very impressed by the landscape on both sides of the road, especially the cycle path next to the road.
Nujiang is one of China’s most biodiverse regions. A 300 kilometre, 4000 metre-deep upspoilt valley runs from the Chinese towns of Liuku to Bingzhongluo. It follows the snaking Nujiang River, which offers a wild and magnificent landscapes. In 2019, a highway was built for almost 300 kilometers.
It is such a pleasant road, from which people cannot help enjoying nature. The clean and green river flows quietly by, however, on some parts of the river, it is not so quiet but becomes quite rapid. The majestic mountains next to the river are covered in green trees. The mountains are so high that it seems that, at times, clouds can cover the tops of the mountains.
There is a well-built cycle pathway between the road and the river. When I walked on the pathway, I enjoyed listening the sound of the river flowing and the birdsong . The sunshine was warm and the wind blew gently. The kids were running and chasing each other. We were all deeply attracted to the beautiful landscape. The only shame was we didn’t have bicycles, otherwise, we would have cycled along the lovely path.
The journey was some unforgettable. I would say now the most attractive road is the Beautiful road in Nujiang. If there is the any , I would love to visit it again and hope I will be able to cycle far along the path.
