Have you ever thought that dancers can be considered athletes? You may be confused by this novel idea. How can dancing performance be related to sports competitions? Read on and let me show you how.
Physical Strength & Skills
First of all, just like sports, dancing also needs physical strength and skills. Many schoolmates may have a misconception that dancers are like swans, which are beautiful but weak. Conclusively, the movements of dancers must be beautiful and ornamental, but most of the time power and skills are needed to accomplish the moves, or what the dancers have performed would be like withered flowers rather than adorable swans. It can be claimed that to be a successful dancer, every cell in your limbs is required to be full of muscles and skilful. For instance, to stand on your toes, your instep have to be straight, and the muscles on your lower legs must work hard to support your toes, as your weight is entirely on them like a mountain. If your leg is not strong enough or you lack of practice to keep yourself balanced, you will fall or be unable to stay still on your toes, though it is a basic technique and looks easy to achieve. See? Even a single and simple movement in dancing has high requirements for your physical strength and skills, just like sports playing. Dancers are like athletes, they make good use of their bodies to keep them in various poses, while athletes use their bodies to achieve similar goals, such as wielding their legs to kick the ball at an angle in order to shoot.
Self-discipline&Training
What's more, dancers and athletes are both well-known to be well-trained and shaped. As a member of the school's dance team and a friend of several athletes in the school's sports team, I have realised that both a dancer and an athlete have to have healthy diets which cannot contain a high proportion of fats, and ought to include plenty of meats and vegetables, no matter how much the dancer or the athlete like eating junk food. We have to control ourselves to keep our bodies in their best state for the next training, thus, we cannot let our bodies gain fat, and ought to stimulate muscles to grow instead, or they may be too weak or unqualified for our sports - dancing or other sports, and affect our performance or match. Only in this way can we achieve the requirements of our sports. Besides, both of us dancers and athletes need to be strictly trained daily, and only the rigour of the training can make us skilled, comparable, and professional. Both dancers and athletes have to use their sweat and pain to exchange awards. Therefore, it can be claimed that self-discipline and training are compulsory for both dancers and athletes, and the way as well as the reason we are strict with ourselves are surprisingly similar. Consequently, dancers can be regarded as one of the sorts of athletes.
I believe that you have learnt interesting facts about the connections between dancing and sports playing! As you can see, dancers and athletes are very much alike. Don't you think that dancers can be included as sportsmen or sportswomen?
