L11-1 Topic discussion: misunderstanding/bad luck at the airport, train or bus station

You should say:

--When and where this misunderstanding happened/what the "bad thing" was?

--How it happened?

--What you did to respond

I would like to share something happened at the airport.

Early this year, I traveled with my best friend to Cambodia. The famous Angkor Wat is absolutely a great tourist site. All the journey was going well, until I was stopped by the local Customs officer. At that moment, my friend and I queued up in two lines waiting for departure stamps by the Customs. When it was my turn, I gave the young officer my passport with a smile. However, it must been minutes had passed, he just hold my passport and did nothing more, and finally he looked up and said "money, money", and staring at me. I was totally shocked wondering what was going on there, and suddenly I realized he was asking for money. I had to pretend that I don't know English so I didn't get what he said.  Then, to my big surprise, he spoke Chinese to me, "qianqian". At the same time, my friend was facing the same situation by another elder officer. I watched what happened and lost my patience. There was a voice in my mind said "How annoying these officers are!" I asked the officer in a little louder voices, "Why should I pay you? I am a tourist here, I already paid for the tickets to the temples, and paid for the hotel and restaurants in your country. Can you advise why should I pay here??" Obviously he didn't expect this, he stopped looking in my eye. It seemed as long as a century, the elder officer came to his seat, stamped on my passport and gave it back to me and said "OK! OK! Have a nice day." What's more, the elder officer returned the money to my friend before we left. In a word, I don't like the Customs officer there. They are disgrace to their country. But all the other local people we met are so polite and nice. When I arrived home, I wrote a letter to their embassy complaining what happened at the airport, but received no response.

Question:

--How was the trip to Cambodia?

--Travelling to Cambodia is not difficult, but you have to plan in advance, what you should know before going Cambodia. Siem Reap City is the home of Angkor Wat, one of the greatest religious monuments in the world. Most visitors spend their time exploring the ancient temple ruins, there are plenty of other diversions in this city.

We spent six days in Siem Reap and stayed in the the same hotel. The hotel is both comfortable and convenient only few minutes walk to the Pub Street and night market (which also brings a little bit noises at night time). By the way, it's very safe and easy and very cheap to get around by tuk tuk.

Generally, tourists can choose the small travel circuit or grand travel circuit, just as the name describes, the small circus takes in several of the major and minor temples, while the grand circuit which is highly recommended for anyone spending three or more days there is an extension on the small circuit but taking in some more temples.

During the whole travel, what impressed me the most was the sunset view at Phnom Bakheng montain top. The fading light became so soft covering the ancient temples and forests, everything seemed staying in silence forever. Everyone stood there watching the great scenery without saying a word.
