Tesla is almost ousted by BYD
Tesla's sales in 2025 failed the market expectations marginally and declined for the first time in the past decade due to the weak performance in the Chinese market. Its main local competitor BYD has a record-breaking year. As the leader of the Chinese EV industry, BYD has a deeper understanding of local customer demands and a better advantage in maintaining low costs compared to Tesla. While Tesla is still enjoying its brand premium, BYD captures a wider scope of the market. In the long run, Tesla will aim at the high-end market and high net-worth customers, focusing on several representative models with great technology. But it would be abnormal if it keeps capturing the major part of the local market.
