The story is about a soldier who had won imperishable fame on the battlefields of his country fought against with death in his last few days.
The soldier was proud ,loyal, candid, and dedicated. Death was the usual Death.
The pivotal scenes :the first his enlightening moment the soldier's thoughts sped back over the years, and his whole life came to him like a lightning flash--the companionship and smiles of kings, the glories of government and political power, the honors of peace, the joys of conquest, the din of battle, the sweets of a quiet home life upon a western prairie, the gentle devotion of a wife, the clamor of noisy boys, and the face of a little girl--ah, there his thoughts lingered and clung. The second, the consequence of his unregretful : so at last, when Death came and the soldier fell asleep forever, Nellie, his little girl, was holding his hands and whispering to him of those days. Hers were the last words he heard, and by the peace that rested on his face when he was dead you might have thought the soldier was dreaming of a time when Nellie prattled on his knee and bade him weave the wild flowers in her curls.

On account of his great accomplishment, at first he buried his mind in inditing his autobiography, his glory histories on the battle field. However, though he prevailed against Death , he suffered from lingering , agonizing, fatal disease .The next time , Death held out his bony hand and beckoned to the soldier, with a bonus-do him a favor. Death thought ,scornfully, he would have choose his unfinished book. To his astonishment, the soilder chose his little girl -his Nellie. Death ,the evil ,felt pity for him instead of deriding the soldier with his hideous aspect and stern features. Before passing away, he made his final decision-his blood ,his little daughter. Quantities of people pursue fame and success with all their heart, ignoring their parents , lovers and so on. While ,when an fatal disease falls on them ,their philosophy of life will be totally different. They will return to the family and would like to trade anything they had possessed for time to spend with their dear family, even for those who had won imperishable fame.
In addition ,one need to strive for what you desire for. The soldier endeavor in the battle he gained words of veneration and love and hope, and quiet fortitude from people. The soldier struggled with Death and prevailed against Death. Accordingly, he won over sometime for his life and obtained a favor from the world’ evil. There is always a principle in the world that you strive ,you gain. If not ,nothing will be yours. In the world ,you are the only one who can penetrate your mind and rummage your thoughts to find out what exactly you hunger for. Thus ,you must fight!
Besides, I harbor the idea that there is a unique one in the world ,maybe around you, maybe you haven’t met, meant to match you, probably as a couple, as your daughter, or as your intimate friend. Undoubtedly, the soldier loved his devotion wife and his naughty sons. Nevertheless ,he was dying to see his only daughter.
The man had ample experiences with all kinds of people, from his own fellas to the president. Who would have thought that the great man just felt like seeing his little girl one more time after all the ups and downs? Humanity is intricated, so dose the thoughts and decisions made by human beings .
The balance of work and life . It has been the inevitable question from generation to generation. I assure myself that I will handle the question properly by observing other’s lives as well as experimenting myself. It a skill of life , requiring large amount of practice.
How will you layout your elder life? At the end of the story, he chose to live an independent life himself. Of course, there is something to do with foreign culture that children will start their own life after their 18th birthday. I will select the similar kind of life but with more friends.
