Transcript for Keeping in Touch #5 - The Affair
Tom: I’m jealous, do you know that -
Rachel: No, you’re not. That’s not what we agreed, that’s why we’re free, you and I.
Tom: I know, I know, it is what we agreed.
(pause)
Rachel: Perhaps we could write. And I could collect it somewhere, you know, care of American Express.
Tom: Is there one in Venice?
Rachel: Bound to be. All those American students sending home for money have to pick up their post somewhere.
Tom: I could write you there. I’ll get Maggie to check it out.
Rachel: (pause) No, you check it out. Best not to leave clues.
Tom: Do you think you’d be able to collect it?
Rachel: Yes, I’ll find a way. I’ll be desperate to hear from you. No one need know, I can be quite devious when I choose.
Tom: So I’ve noticed.
Rachel: Don’t judge me, Tom. (pause) After all I’ve not deliberately lied.
Tom: It’s a fine distinction.
Rachel: But one that should be made.
Tom: By who, Rachel? By you and me? What about David? You can’t be faithful and unfaithful at the same time.
Rachel: I can try. (pause) We’re trying, aren’t we? That way I can live life as I want it.
Tom: Yes. And as I want it too. You know that, don’t you?
