1. new words:
> gauge
You need to gauge first if she has any kind of positive feeling about you.
to make a judgement about sth, especially people's feelings or attitudes 判定，判断（尤指人的感情或态度）
They interviewed employees to gauge their reaction to the changes.他们与雇员面谈以判定他们的应变能力。
He tried to gauge her mood.他试图揣摩她的心情。
> upfront
I think being upfront about your affection toward a girl is flattering and should be an honor to her, as long as you are a gentleman yourself.

He's been upfront about his intentions since the beginning. 他从一开始就明白说出了他的意图。
> touch base
touch 'base (with sb) (informal) to make contact with sb again 再次联系

> cover
[VN] to be or provide enough money for sth 足以支付；够付
$100 should cover your expenses. 100 元该足够支付你的费用了。
Your parents will have to cover your tuition fees. 你的父母得支付你的学费。
The show barely covered its costs. 这场演出勉强够本。
2. 写 networking emails 注意点
(1) 第一封信里不要提出人家无法在只看你信就能决定的问题。
(2) 求职类
第一种：想跟人聊聊职业内涵走向，把对方当作前辈请教。
第二种：目的是约见面混脸熟，可以在信中直接说“我要求职”
可引用： If you heard of any vacancy 空缺 in this field, would you mind referring me the information or pointing me in that direction ? That would be much appreciated. (感谢的说法/Much appreciationfor your kind consideration and your time.)
当然这个问题也最好在见面时或之后问，一般人能随手帮忙都会很愿意。
(3) 求合作类
第一封信我不能直接邀请合作 但是仍然可以礼貌地提出一些可行的建议 求合作等他回复见面可行时再提
3. 句型
请求给出建议：It would be more than nice if you could give me some advice on how to improve···

Thank you very much for the offer of a place in the 2017 AIPE summer program and a generous $1500 scholarship. I consider it a hard-earned honor to be accepted into the AIPE program on a scholarship basis.
As excited as I am （学习衔接）about the prospect of studying and working with 59 outstanding fellow students and prestigious professors in the coming summer, my financial circumstances remain a concern to me.
