Plants make their own food but aniamls do not. Instead, animals eat other living things.
Food chains show how animals get the nutrients they need.(食物链显示动物如何获取他们所需要的营

Most food chains start with green plants,such as clover.Green plants are producers(制造者). Producer: A living thing that makes its own food(制造者是指可以自己制造食物的生物).Plants are producers.(植物是生产者).

The arrows mean 'is eaten by'.(箭头→是指‘被吃掉').In this food chain(在这个食物链) the clover(三叶草)is eaten by the snail(被蜗牛吃掉),the snail is eaten by the hedgehog(刺猬)and the hedgehog is eaten by the badger(刺猬被獾吃掉).
Animals that eat other animals are predators(捕食者). Hedgehogs and badgers are predators(刺猬和獾是捕食者).
The hedgehog is also a prey animal(刺猬也是被猎食的动物).It is eaten by other animals(它会被其他动物吃掉), for example the badger(比如獾).The food chain shows that snails are the prey of hedgehogs.(这个食物链显示蜗牛是刺猬的猎物)
Changes to one plant or animals in a food chain affact other parts of the chain(一种植物或食物的变化会影响到食物链上的其他部分).For example ,if badgers are killed the number of hedgehogs might increase(例如，如果獾被杀死，刺猬的数量就有可能增加).
