I have just received a letter from my brother, Tim. He is in Australia. He has been there for six months. Tim is an engineer. He is working for a big firm and he has already visited a great number of different places in Australia.
He has just bought an Australian car and has gone to Alice Springs, a small town in the centre of Australia. He will soon visit Darwin. From there, he will fly to Perth. My brother has never been abroad before, so he is finding this trip very exciting.

知识笔记:
今天复习音标:中元音 [ɜ:],它的发音要点是:
1)舌身平放,舌中部伸向硬腭,但不与它接触,舌部肌肉紧张,像发[i:]时,不像发[ə] 口腔肌肉放松。
2)发长音,听起来有点像汉语的饿。
3)在课文中仅有一个词:firm。其它的词有:certain,skirt,nervous等。看到字母组合er,要想到这个音标。
