The dreams of today’s migrants are often different from those of factory workers in the earlier years of China’s industrial boom. 这几句话里的 industrial boom 很有趣，意思是工业腾飞，简短直观地表达出了这个意思，比industry is developing rapidly 这样的表达要简洁许多。我们知道 boom 有增长，提升的意思。其英文释义为 a sudden increase in trade and economic activity; a period of wealth and success （来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）意思是（经济财富等方面的）突然增长。比如例句 Living standards improved rapidly during the post-war boom 战后繁荣时期，生活水平迅速提高 .a property/housing boom 房地产繁荣
work the land 耕地，种地。这个短语每个单词都认识，也很常见，尤其是 work，平时总会见到万变不离其宗的各种意思，比如工作，起作用等等。但是这个看似简单的组合到一起的表达自己还不太会用。看work 相关的英文释义为 to manage or operate something to gain benefit from it （来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）意思是操作经营某事以从中获利。比如例句 You have to learn how to work the system if you want to succeed. 如果你想成功，你必须学会如何运作这个系统。She was a skilful speaker who knew how to work a crowd (= to excite them or make them feel something strongly). 她是一位能言善辩的演讲者，知道如何调动群众情绪。
关于种地这个意思，还有常见的 farm可以来表达。
vocational college 职业技术学院。原来印象中的职业技术学院的表达方式是这样的。vocation 这个词长得和度假 vacation有几分相似，但意思并不一样。看其英文释义为 connected with the skills, knowledge, etc. that you need to have in order to do a particular job （来自Oxford Learners Dictionaries）意思是专业技能。
接着往下看时，发现了关于几分之几的两种表达方式：比如五分之一可以用 a fifth或者是 one in five 来表达。
