Teaching Context: I taught a beginner-level English class to a group of fifth graders. The class was 40 minutes long and the topic of the teaching unit is food and drinks.
Lesson Objective: The objective of the lesson was to introduce basic vocabulary related to food and drinks, and to practice using the present simple tense in context.
Teaching Strategies: I used a variety of teaching strategies to engage my students, including visual aids, group work, and interactive games. I also used realia (real-life objects) to help students connect with the vocabulary in a meaningful
Student Engagement: Overall, I felt that my students were engaged and interested in the lesson. They seemed to enjoy working in groups and playing games to practice the new vocabulary. However, I noticed that a few students were hesitant to speak up and participate in the whole-class activities.
Assessment: I assessed my students' learning by observing their participation in the activities, as well as by asking them questions to check their understanding. I also provided feedback on their pronunciation and grammar use throughout the lesson.
Strengths: One of the strengths of the lesson was the use of realia, which seemed to help students make connections between the vocabulary and real-life situations. I also felt that the group work activities were successful in promoting student engagement and interaction
Challenges: One of the challenges I faced was managing the time effectively. Additionally, I will continue to explore different teaching strategies to better engage all students, including those who are more hesitant to participate in whole-class activities.
