【赏析】
在第五章中，通过Winston 和 Julia的对话，进一步看出了两人之间的观点分歧，Winston内心相信有反抗的组织，并视O’Brien为可以组织反抗的人，而Julia, she refused to believe that widespread , organized opposition existed or could exist . 两人更大的一个分歧体现在，Winston在一直追寻真相，寻找evidence；而Julia对极权社会的谎言并不关心，the difference between truth and falsehood did not seem important to her . 事情的对与错、真与假，她并不在乎。如果套用文中Winston对Julia的评价，那么Julia是a rebel from the waist downwards ,就是说她很少去思考为什么，她并不关心什么历史被篡改，现实中的谎言啊，她更多地是在想如何实现secret disobedience ,如何去伪装保全自己，如何去躲避“猎狗”； 这样说来Winston 就是a rebel from the waist upwards ,从一开始他就在找寻evidence，…..the only evidence is inside my own mind ….but it was evidence .it might have planted a few doubts here and there ,supposing that I ‘d dared to show it to anybody ,…But one can imagine little knots of resistance springing up here and there –small groups of people banding themselves together ,and gradually growing ,and even leaving a few records behind ,so that the next generations can carry on where we leave off . 他一直在寻找历史，发掘真相，还原真实的历史，一是希望别人也能够渐渐觉醒，从evidence中发现倪端，团结起来共同反抗；二是希望这样的evidence可以流传后世，总有人在记录找寻真实，不要让真实的历史被淹没。所以从这一点来说Winston内心渴望真实，他是在用脑子想，追寻为什么，寻求答案的一类人；而其他人包括Julia在内都只是全盘接受政权所灌输的思想，他们不关心也不在乎所谓的是非曲直。They simply swallowed everything and what they swallowed did them no harm, because it left no residue behind, just as a grain of corn will pass undigested through the body of a bird.
