原文：

Yesterday afternoon Frank Hawkins was telling me about his experiences as a young man. Before he retired, Frank was the head of a very large business company, but as a boy he used to work in a small shop. It was his job to repair bicycles and at that time he used to work fourteen hours a day. He saved money for years and in 1958 he bought a small work-shop of his own. In his twenties, Frank used to make spare parts for aeroplanes. At that time he had two helpers. In a few years, the small work-shop had become a large factory which employed seven hundred and twenty-eight people. Frank smiled when he remembered his hard early years and the long road to success. He was still smiling when the door opened and his wife came in. She wanted him to repair their grandson's bicycle!

知识笔记：

半元音【j】

1）双唇向两旁伸展成扁平形。

2）舌前部向硬腭尽量抬起，不要抵住硬腭。

3）气流从舌和硬腭的缝隙间通过，同时声带需震动，发音短促，立刻向后面的元音滑动。

注意：/j/是个半元音，发音时口型和元音/iː/有点相似，但它仍是个辅音，元音可以单独成音可以延长，半元音不可以单独成音不可以延长。

最近感觉有些读过的单词音标可以自己写出来了，不过局限于简单的，哈哈哈，但是也算是一种提高吧，最近这几天把之前刷过的音标又刷了一遍，就是小伙伴们经常指出的那种，第一遍刷的时候还是没有太细致，所以以后我还是争取做到一遍刷好吧，提高效率，认真仔细！
