Texas has been hit by a devastating snowstorm in mid-February, leaving about half or the state's electricity-generating capacity offline, millions left without electricity. A string of planning failures, including unhardened Lectricity infrastructure and inopportune maintenance of several power plants, are relative to the catastrophe. Climate change-linking researches, along with the freak snowstorm bring polar vortex, an severe effect of global warming, whose occurrence can bring more climate-linked disasters such as extreme heat and extreme cold, into the spotlight. Considering that as global warming intensifies, to manage these disasters and their fallout may turn out to be increasingly difficult, climate adaptation experts warn that more effective measures, such as hardening infrastructure, developing more localized energy production and above all, electric grid planners taking the grid as a system, integrating technologies like energy storage, be taken: a new way of thinking is imperative.
