It is not a surprise that the extreme winter weather has wreaked such a havoc in Texas, neither do the Texans, oblivious of warnings given by energy regulators and climate scientists, have the ability to tackle it well. Half of the power plants in Texas were paralyzed, leaving people exposed to cold air and short of water and Electricity---all these show a disastrous level of underpreparation. Several power plants remained offline for maintenance, but made matters worse, which formed a vicious circle. They could have anticipated some problems of this unprecedented catastrophe if those warnings were taken more seriously and better plans were made. In recent years, electric grid in some areas in the US is not capable of keeping abreast of climate damages and extreme weather events has made electricity supply more difficult to ensure. In California, some natural gas power plants has been grounded due to a high temperature. US experienced 22 expensive climate events in 2020. As global warming intensifies, disasters like these will become more intractable. Therefore, effective changes are much-needed and planners need to do a better job. A new climate has already come into being, people should adopt a new way of thinking accordingly at this juncture.
