It was not a surprise that Texas blackouts happened in mid-February when facing the extreme winter weather. Although warnings were given to Texas even decades ago, the state was still unprepared. As a result, storm caused a lot of problems such as frozing the equipment at power plants, icing over natural gas wells and slowing the fuel supply, which made Texans suffer in cold winter. It was believed that the cause of failures was people didn't take those threats seriously. The failures also indicated a great change in climate-changed world in 21st century which has more frequent and intensified climate catastrophes. That's why people should plan better to cope with these problems.
Scientists suggest that the climate change which makes warmer in the Arctic weaken the jet stream and then allowed freezing air to drift down to lower latitudes. Because of the vagaries of climate, electricity can hardly match demand. However, as global warming intensities, there is no denying that people will face more difficulties to manage it. Most importantly, to think holistically about the grid as a system is necessary.
