【题目关键词】
study alone, study in a group, more effective
【思路】
Study alone:
1. 不需要协调每个人方便的时间、地点,可以节约不少时间
2. 不会被不给力的组员拖后腿,自己掌握自己的学习工作节奏
3. Less distraction, more focused,人多容易说闲话,降低学习工作的效率
Study in a group:
1. Better brainstorming/different perspectives
Students all have their own preference when it comes to study habits. Some prefer studying alone for less distraction, while others would rather study in a group to seek more help and support. In my opinion, studying in a group is definitely more effective, though I do admit that it could be less ideal under some certain circumstances.
First, studying in a group is more effective than studying alone since it generates more diverse perspectives. It is not hard to imagine that students could encounter some obstacles when they study alone, and without external help, they could easily get stuck and fail to come up with a solution. However, if they study in a group, they could easily have a discussion with others. When different minds collide, it is much more likely that the problem-solving process would be much smoother and more creative. Just like many successful startups, the founders work in a group and their inspirational brainstorming brings great ideas into reality. Studying in a group definitely increase effectiveness in this sense.
Second, studying in a group is more effective since it can help create a tightly-bonded learning community, in which students motivate each other and provide more mental support that cannot be found in studying alone. When students are under pressure, it is likely that they would feel depressed and stressed out if they are studying alone. Without a supporting group, they could easily feel unmotivated, start to procrastinate, or just give up when they lose hope. However, if they study in a group, since every student is facing the same problem and trying to achieve the same goal, they could confront their fear and anxiety together. For example, when I was preparing for the college-entrance examination, I was so grateful that I was in a greatly helpful study group. We always cheered each other up and kept moving forward together, which made the initially dreadful examination less terrifying. With encouragement from peers, students could tackle problems with more confidence, knowing that there is always someone supporting them.
Admittedly, if you choose a wrong group of people to study with, it could be less effective than studying alone for that it could cause some unnecessary distraction. For instance, there was one time that I was studying with my best friends. One of them randomly brought up an irrelevant topic, then we started chatting and laughing, and in the end we completely forgot about study and did not get anything done on that day. Therefore, in order to ensure the effectiveness of studying in a group, students should consider studying with people who are highly self-disciplined, or they might as well just study alone.
In conclusion, I believe that studying in a group is more effective, because compared with studying alone, studying in a group brings about more various viewpoints and actual help, provides more emotional comfort and stimulates inner motivation. If students can carefully select the members of a study group, they can avoid unnecessary distraction and even achieve higher efficiency.
