Today's article of Liuli Reading is about the hit TV series "All is well", which I have discussed yesterday.
The show tells the story of a fictional Chinese family torn by internal conflict. The female protagonist, Su Mingyu, is barely on speaking terms with her widowed father and one of her two brothers. The father Su Daqiang, is a nagging crank who expects his two adult sons to brankroll his lavish tastes. This leads to constant bickering between the brothers.
Many Chinder probably can relate to the Su family's troubles. The parents mistreated the daughter while pampered the sons. Even today, in some areas, parents do have the idea that daughter will be daughter-in-law one day, they will marry with someone sooner or later. So they may treat the girls badly as they will leave them off in the future.
How shocked idea even in 21st century!
Moreover, this TV series also reacted some deep-rooted problems of Chinese traditional families which deserve to think profoundly now.
Besides, the biggest reaction has been to the drama's critique of filial piety. Even till now, the Confucian principle of unswerving loyalty to one's parents remins hallowed. Many people say the best measure of adherence to this virtue is whether a son takes good care of his parents in old age.
But in my opinion, the true filial piety is to give parents more spirtual companionship rather than material satisfaction. Filial peity is one of the virtues to be held above all else, but the way to love our parents is the piont to focus on.
Although different families have different problems, the love and understanding are the basic principle for solving everything.
The home is a place where you can berth your heart.
