Summary
When Haw faced up to his fear, he realized that the difficulties and dangers he imagined didn't apply to the real situation. Human's imagination easily activates their minds , which creates lots of terrible virtual scenes that keep them back from advancing.
In other words, Haw used his intelligent brains to exaggerate the danger in the dark Maze, so every time the thoughts about moving forward came up, he will reject it because of his worry about the future.
And he also learned that it is natural for changes to happen. He used to believe that everything will keep what they are, but now, he was looking for it. If you didn't expect the arrival of changes, it will shock you, surprise you, and even make you feel impossible. So, the key point is be a seeker-----seek for changes.
The change happened on Haw's belief influenced his behavior. And he first found that the different way of thinking didn't keep him away from danger but encouraging new behaviors.
Haw's experience literally broaden his horizons. What's more, the change on his minds impact the perspective how he deal with a problem.
Story
In this part of story, the author presents an important idea to us: The way you think influence the way act.
In our daily life, especially as a Chinese, some words are continuously repeated beside our ears, such as diligence, persistence and effort. It seems that the efforts can change everything and make you get what you desire. If you don't succeed finally, you definitely lack of efforts.
I have to admit the words like that strongly encourage us , motivate us and push us to be better. But if you don't see the correct goal, everything you put into is nothing.
Just like Haw, after he realized the real situation is never as bad as what he imagined, his behavior totally changed. When Haw and Hem was in Cheese Station C, they wish the cheese would come back and even guessed the cheese was hidden behind the wall. So, what they did was fetching hammers and some tools and digging the wall. Definitely they had spent a large amount of efforts in finding cheese, but how they thought greatly influenced the behavior.
As we all know, Haw and Hem failed. The efforts , time, and energy was in vain.
If you didn't choose the right way, the more efforts you put the more you lose.
Direction is more important than efforts.
In previous eighteen years , we don't have chance to decide where we go. The path is paved with hope and expectation by our teachers and parents. But after entering the university, all things have changed and you have freedom to choose how you spend your life.
I think it's serious challenge to us. And the decision we make will substantially impact who we will be.
