1. Words and phrases
1) Patty Farrell piped up from the front of the room.
Pipe up: 插嘴,开始唱
e.g.: She piped up with an interesting thought soon.
2) So thanks to Patty, I ended up flunking the quiz.
Flunk: (考试等)失败,不及格
e.g.: Sorry to tell you that I flunk the exam.
3) Mom said the only way I was going to be “well-rounded” was by trying different things.
Well-rounded: 全面发展
e.g.: With the expectation of to be “well-rounded”, Kids work really hard for it nowadays.
4) Dad and Mom argued for a few minutes, but Dad was no match for Mom.
No match: 不是对手
e.g.: Obviously, he is no match for the big guy.
5) Unfortunately, a bunch of other guys had the same idea as me, so I guess there are a lot of guys who have a bone to pick with Patty Farrell.
Have a bone to pick with: 对……不满, 有账要算
e.g.: I have a bone to pick with you about the way you talked to me.
2. Sentences
1) And I will definitely be looking for a way to pay her back for that one.
e.g.: She embarrassed me in front of so many people, I will look for a way to pay her back for that one.
2) I was trying to figure out what part I should pay, but pretty much every character has to sing or dance at one point or another.
e.g.: I am trying to figure out which classes I should take, but pretty much every classes is good for my work ability improving at one point or another.
3. Dairy
I didn’t sleep well recently. One of my friend ask me to reach for Tryptophan-Rich Foods which is good for sleep. We've all heard of warm milk's magical ability to send us off to dreamland. Do you know why it's true? Dairy foods contain tryptophan, which is a sleep-promoting substance. Other foods that are high in tryptophan include nuts and seeds, bananas, honey, and eggs. I will try some of these foods from now on and see if there is any improvement for my sleep.
