"Good morning,"said the merchant.
“早安,”店主人说。
This was a merchant who sold pills that had been invented to quench thirst. You need only swallow one pill a week, and you would feel no need of anything to drink.
这个店主人专卖一种止渴的药丸。一个星期吃一颗,你就可以不用喝水。
"Where are you selling those?" asked the little prince.
“你为什么要卖这种药丸呢?”小王子问。
"Because they save a tremendous amount of time," said the merchant. "Computations have been made by experts. With these pills, you save fifty-three minutes in every week."
“吃这种药丸可以节省很多时间呀!”店主人答道,“专家已经计算过,每星期可以节省五十三分钟。”
"And what do I do with those fifty-three minutes?"
“人们怎么处理那五十三分钟?”
"Anything you like........."
“他们爱怎么处理,就怎么处理。”
"As for me," said the little prince to himself," if I had fifty-three minutes to spend as I liked, I should walk at my leisure toward a spring of fresh water."
“如果我有五十三分钟空下来的话,”小王子说,“我要漫步道喷水池那边去。”
