She had never seen the sky that color before. Moon gazed up at the crystal blue skies. There were no clouds in sight and the sky was a beautiful teal color.
Moon had long, silky black hair and beautiful green eyes. She wore a light blue swimsuit. Her best friend, Qibli, drifted beside her. They were at the pool, just lazily doing nothing. Except for the fact that her friend, Kink, wanted to go on a water slide, jump on the trampoline, play hide-and-seek and do everything. But for now she agreed they could just relax. It was peaceful right now; however, Moon knew it wouldn’t last for long. She was right! After 10 minutes, Kink started pestering them again, so Moon and Qibli agreed to play. They decided to play hide-and- seek first. Moon wasn’t really in the mood for hiding, so she volunteered to seek first. After counting to forty, she opened her eyes and looked around. She thought she heard a noise. What was that? A beaver? A very big super scary wild dragon? Wait, no! Dragons weren’t real! She looked behind a shed. That’s when she heard rustling and chomping in the bushes. What was that? She looked in the bush, and found a very confused raccoon, happily eating a leftover slice of watermelon. Oookay, Moon thought. That’s a bit strange, but that explains the chomping. So what was the rustling? The rustling turned out to be a family of ducks, with the tiny newborn babies waddling towards the pool for a quick dip. AWWWW, Moon thought.
Alright, no more distractions. I need to go find Kink! She wanted to go on the water slide earlier, Moon recalled. So I’ll go check it out. Maybe she’s hiding up there! Reaching the top of the waterslide, she looked around. It was really dark and it spooked Moon out, just the teensiest bit. There it was again! That same noise! She looked again, aha! Kink was in one of the corners! It was a good hiding spot, Moon had to admit that. She would never have thought of looking in corners. She tagged Kink, then slid down the slide, where she found Qibli trying to blend in with the pool floaties. Suddenly, just as they were about to play another round, a dark shadow fell across them and Moon glanced up, anxiously. The Sun had disappeared! She soon realized that it was probably just an eclipse. Judging by the look on the other’s faces, they had probably assumed the same thing.
The eclipse was very dark, Moon could hardly see 4 feet in front of her. It felt like absolutely FOREVER, before they saw the Sun come back. It started as a very faint ring of light which gradually grew stronger and stronger and it resulted in the Sun coming back. It was dark, then whoosh! The light was back again!
Suddenly Moon’s phone chimed. She whipped it out and looked at her messages. There were like, a bazillion messages from her mother asking if she was safe and other motherly things. One message told her to come home right now, since she needed to finish her history homework. Sighing, Moon bade the others goodbye and left for home.
Back home, her mother lectured her for about an hour on personal safety, what to do in an eclipse-like situation and to always let her know that Moon was safe. Then Moon was immediately sent upstairs to complete her boring history homework.
Nice job, Mother, Moon thought grumpily, You’ve ruined my day! But then she thought back to herself, floating in the pool, Qibli and Kink beside her and she smiled. Well, maybe the day wasn’t completely ruined. Besides, there’s always tomorrow, Moon thought as she finished up her history homework and headed down the stairs for dinner.
