Today, people of different backgrounds are pursuing distinct paths of life. Some prefer to keep doing the same thing for the whole life, while some long for changes. Here we will look at both attitudes and share my own thoughts.
To start with, people who like stability and safety tend to keep doing the same things and stay in comfort zone for many years. As time goes by, people will get familiar with what they have been doing. Increasingly, it causes painful efforts to change to something new which might lead to failure. That is one of the reasons why the life-long public servant job has been a popular choice for graduates for the past few years, and those who take the job are likely to do it for their whole career life.
In comparison, however, more and more people are taking chances to change nowadays, against the backdrop of fast-changing society we live in. We may change our jobs several times, the cities we decide to live in, and even our family members. But does that mean changes are always good? Not necessary. Before making changes, thoughtful consideration should be taken. Take my own experience as an example. I have made several decisions to change along the way, moving from Shanghai to Beijing, before back to Shanghai again; changing my major in the first year to English; changing my job from a law firm to the Walt Disney Company one year after graduation. Those decisions were made after reviewing my situation and consulting with friends and family. They were not easy, but definitely rewarding.
In conclusion, a stable life without any major changes is seen as the best option for some people, while for others, to change is the only way to growth and success. Personally, I think we should be more adaptive and inclusive to keep up with the times. Informed and suitable changes can help us grow, learn, and improve.
