In most cases, people go to visit a place just to enjoy the beautiful view but I am the person with a little bit more curiosity, always eager to know more. I would like to listen to the local people tell some stories, whether they are from a tourist guide, or a taxi driver. I even find stories from online forums.
大多数时候人们去某个地方只不过就是欣赏一下风景，但我好奇心稍微有点强，总是想了解更多。我喜欢听当地的人们讲述一些故事，导游也好，出租车司机也罢，有故事听就好，我甚至还会跑到一些论坛上去找故事。
The wish to go to Qiandao Lake dates back to 10 years ago, but somehow it didn't come true until last week. There is no doubt the scenery of the lake is very beautiful but as an artificial lake, where is the water from? The problem drove me to do some online searching and finally I found the lake is one of the products of the construction of Xin’an Water Power Plant.
十年前就想去千岛湖了，但一直拖着，上周总算是去了一次。千岛湖的风景无疑是美的，但千岛湖的水从哪里来？后来我才知道千岛湖是为了建新安发电厂而来的。
In order to solve the urgent problem of insufficient power supply in East China region, the Chinese government proposed and finished this giant water conservation project in 1960s. The project changed the fate of about 300,000 people and the cost was more than money.
上世纪六十年代，为了解决华东地区的供电问题，政府决定要建造新安水力发电站，30万人的命运因此而改变，当地的人们做出了巨大的牺牲。
The following factors may reveal more.
下面几件事情是我后来知道的。
During the construction of Xin'an Hydropower Station, 49 towns and nearly 1,400 natural villages were inundated. More than 300,000 people who had been living in these villages and towns had to leave their hometowns for this reason abandoning their own houses and farming land.
新安水电站的建造过程中，在周边，一共淹没了49个乡镇，以及近1400个自然村，在这些村镇居住的30多万民众，都因为这个原因离开了家乡，付出了自己原本一直居住着的家园。
However, the most unfortunate loss should be two ancient cities developed in the Tang and Han Dynasties located near Xin'an Hydropower Station. These two ancient cities, one called the Lion City and the other Hecheng, are both ancient cities with a long history. Of course, there were many ancient buildings in the two places. Because of the limited time, it was impossible for many residents in the Lion City to take away and clean up everything when they were evacuated. Because of this, the Lion City was preserved better than Hecheng which was flooded and ruined. In spite of this, the two ancient cities still attract many diving enthusiasts to “explore” the relics every year.
不过最为可惜的损失，还是要数在新安水电站附近的两座唐汉年间的古城，这两座古城，一座叫做狮城，一座叫做贺城，这两座，都是历史悠久的古城，在城市之中，有许多的古建筑，因为时间关系，狮城中很多的居民在撤离时，都没有来的及收拾，因为如此，狮城也得以保存的更加完好，而贺城，则被水流冲的破烂不堪了，但即使如此，这两座古城在每年，还是会吸引不少潜水爱好者到下面去“探险”。

While on the sight-seeing boat a tourist guide told us another thing. For a long time, the issue of compensation for Chun’an(Qiandao Lake) local people who lost their land has been a heatedly discussed topic, which is also a reason why local people are unsatisfied with the provincial government. At first sight, the town of Chun’an is well developed. However, local people’s annual income is incredibly low while the housing price is extraordinarily high. A large number of people from other rich places have bought a batch of flats in this small town, making the housing price rising sharply.
在游船上时，一位导游说千岛湖安置款不是一次性给的而是每个月发放，有的年纪大的根本拿不到多少，还有其他一些，这里就不说了。
A local taxi driver taking us to the railway station told us something interesting about himself. He still remembers the old days when there was no lake. At that time, he lived in a village on the valley. Everyday he had to climb to the hill to collect firewood. When the local people were ordered to move his father chose not to leave. At that time about one third of local people preferred to live on the top of the hills and later they became new Chun’an people. Tourist industry has changed the way they make living but they will never change the way they deal with life, they are still industry and sincere.
送我们去高铁站的出租车司机也讲了一下事情，他说小时候要上山砍柴，现在住的地方是山顶，当年有三分之一的人不愿意离开，就搬到了山顶。还有一些杂七杂八的，就不一一叙述了。
