Article 1: My drive in USA:
I write this note as my stream of consciousness from my daily drive and life. You are welcome to sit beside me and join the drive.
458 English words; Estimated reading time: Less than 3 min.
Americans are Americans, we seem not tocare much about what the other parts of the world does and which side of theroad they drive. We love our cars andit’s a part of life and it represents us in the culture around us.
Some basics first. We have our own words for cars, we do not usethe words from Europe and other places. We do not know what is “Petrol” – we call it “Gas”.On Google, we will search for “Gas Station”,not “Petrol Station” in USA.Our car has a “Trunk”, not a “Boot”.We have a “Hood”, not a “Bonnet”.There are many more, but these are thebasics.
We are proud of our American cars, but we secretly admire the European cars as we do the beautiful neighbor girl.
The morning sun is upon us and let's start our day – Engine on. Music on… no no. we turn on the news first to know what is happening.Of coz, we are stupid and only care about the news around us and ignore the news around the world.Although we are aware that our Radio news stations are biased and they feed us limited news, we gladly consume the stupidity. Most morning Radio show has much talk and laughter – it’s a way to have friends during our morning drive.
Ummm.. I am hungry and I want my morning coffee…
We have a lot of Drive-In restaurants… thiswas first invented by a Texan entrepreneur named Jessie G. Kirby in the year1921.He opened America’s first drive-inrestaurant, along a highway.Such aDrive-In place was an instant success and the phrase “Drive-In” was born.
Now I have a cup of coffee in hand and anegg breakfast sandwich and my phone lying on the side.We all know it’s not safe, but we do all thisand more in the car in the morning.Oncein a while you can see more of our stupidity - lady putting her makeup in thecar, cutting nails, reading a book or newspaper, laptop work and more.Eating and having coffee in the car is sonormal, we do not think of this as abnormal.
So, you are with me “Riding Shotgun”.Sitting in the front seat (not the driver),is called “Riding Shotgun”.This saying’sroots lie in the American Wild West. In those days it was necessary for allwagon“stagecoach” drivers to have an armed guard ride next to him. Armed with aGun, it was the guard’s job to shoot any potential threat to the wagon. Of coz,it can be animals, bad people or anything that may threaten the wagon.
Next we continue the drive ---- and that is rest of the story.

我们有一个“Hood(引擎盖)”,而不是一个“Bonnet(引擎盖)”。
