自我觉知，是无路可循的。如果追逐路径，就意味着渴望获得某种结果——我们人人所渴求的，只是结果。

我们追随权威——即便不是权威人物，也是权威体系、权威理念，因为我们都渴望从中获得满意结果，从而为我们赋予安全感。实际上，我们根本不想真正了解自己，不想理解自己内心的冲动与反应、思维的全部过程、意识与无意识，所以只要某某体系承诺了好结果，我们就心甘情愿地追逐。我们之所以追逐体系，只是渴望从中获得安全感、确定感，显然不是为了觉知自我。当我们遵循某法门时，就必然尊奉权威——师父、导师、大师、救世主——权威们保证：我们一定能如愿以偿。毫无疑问，这绝不是自我觉知之路。

权威是参悟自我的障碍。在权威、导师的庇护下，你或许能获得短暂的安宁与幸福，但那不是全面觉知自我。权威的本质，就是阻碍对自我的全然觉知，所以从根本上摧毁着自由。唯自由的心灵，才有创造力；唯自我觉知，心灵才有创造力。

Creativeness Through Self-Knowledge

… There is no method for self-knowledge. Seeking a method invariably implies the desire to attain some result — and that is what we all want.

We follow authority — if not that of a person, then of a system, of an ideology — because we want a result that will be satisfactory, which will give us security. We really do not want to understand ourselves, our impulses and reactions, the whole process of our thinking, the conscious as well as the unconscious; we would rather pursue a system that assures us of a result. But the pursuit of a system is invariably the outcome of our desire for security, for certainty, and the result is obviously not the understanding of oneself. When we follow a method, we must have authorities — the teacher, the guru, the savior, the Master — who will guarantee us what we desire; and surely that is not the way to self-knowledge.

Authority prevents the understanding of oneself, does it not? Under the shelter of an authority, a guide, you may have temporarily a sense of security, a sense of well-being, but that is not the understanding of the total process of oneself. Authority in its very nature prevents the full awareness of oneself and therefore ultimately destroys freedom; in freedom alone can there be creativeness. There can be creativeness only through self-knowledge.
