One lesson I took from all my home-schooling about heroes was that they didn’t say much. None was a blabbermouth. None micromanaged. Don’t tell people how to do things, tell them what to do and let them surprise you with their results.
很喜欢这句话里面的blabbermouth: someone who tells people about things that should be kept secret, 今天也看到另外个表达:tongue-tied (因为害羞和紧张)舌头打结
I do not like her, because she is such a blabbermouth.
I do not know why I always get a little tongue-tied when I meet my boss.
2 I toyed with the idea of not giving Johnson my new address. But I did.
I toy with the idea of going to Italy to be an overseas volunteer
For a time i had toy with the notion of doing a PHD
one day, maybe, in Japan. “Farfetched,” I wrote. “But it seems worth shooting for.”Phil Knight.
This last line was wholly truthful. It was worth shooting for.= aim for
shoot for,争取,为...而努力 endeavor to
Learning a foreign language well can be a lifelong endeavor = learning a language well is worth shooting for
Eric's honest endeavors to improve our language skill
4 If Blue Ribbon went bust, I’d have no money, and I’d be crushed.
2) have no money 让我想到昨天Eric分享的一个短语: but the man wasn't made money, 这人又不是钱造出来的。 3) I'd be crushed (与现在事实相反:if + S +Ved, S+should/would/might/could + do)
👉造句:if I did not have many dear friends around me, I'd be crushed.
5 I thought I loved to read; Johnson was next level.
👉 I think I love to travel, but May,a friend of mine, is next level.
I think I love to meet new friends, but she is next level.
I think i love to socialize, but my friend, Sijia Tong, is next level.
