Today is Saturday.
Mr. Basch gave the girls some smoked salmon, salty but delicious. Charlotte and Gertie sucked and ate and then they couldn't help tasting some crackers and chocolate babies. They walked into their house, trotted upstairs and slipped into their bedroom, not noticed by Mama. They had known that their mom wouldn't allow them to keep the foods on their beds. Gertie hid the crackers and candy under the pillow, the place would not be found out by Mama. It was the bed time for all the girls. While Ella and Sarah were talking about their dreaming, Henny planning her mischief in school, Charlotte and Gertie were going to take their hidings out to eat. At that moment, Mama was coming in with the heated flatirons. The two little girls were frightened and also excited for trying to prevent their bodies from quivering. Fortunately Mama didn't find their strange behavior. They ate the chocolate baby from head to feet after Mama had left the room. They played many games of eating crackers and they thought they would never be caught, but actually Mama knew their secret by the cracker crumbs the next morning.
