初中英语——Six solar terms in winter

In China, there are 24 solar terms in a year. And there are solar terms in winter. They are the Begining of Winter, Light Snow, Heavy Snow, Winter Solstice, Lesser Cold and Greater Cold.

The Begining of Winter usually falls on November 7 or 8. On this day, after a year of hard work, people are happy to have a rest and spend time with the family. Northern China celebrates the Beginings of Winter as the "Small Spring Festival". People usually have dumplings and mutton soup on that day.

Light Snow usually falls on November 22 or 23 and Heave Snow usually falls on a day during December 6 to 8. When Witner Solstice comes, it brings the shortest day and the longest night of the year. Many places around the country can expect the coldest weather.

Greater Cold comes after Lesser Cold. The ground is covered with snow. After Greater Cold, all Chinese are ready to welcome the Spring Festival. Of course, a new round of solar terms will start.
