(Schumpeter)
In western countries people always talk about how technology is occupying a central place in America. However, things seem to be different if we look from the Asian perspective. People in Asia can pay the busters and fishmongers by phones. Schumpeter soon feels the shock when he turns back to New York from there.
In Western countries it is common to talk about American technology being dominant. From an Asian perspective that seems off. Fresh from visiting the region, where buskers and kerbside fishmongers can be paid by presenting a phone, Schumpeter has found it a shock being back in New York.
👉off
If you say that someone's behaviour is a bit off, you mean that you find it unacceptable or wrong.[INFORMAL]
//...coming home with make-up all over his clothes - it's a bit off isn't it...
Some of the dialogue is slightly off.
👉fresh from doing
If you are fresh from a particular place or experience, you have just come from that place or you have just had that experience. You can also say that someone is fresh out of a place.
I returned to the office, fresh from Heathrow...
Fresh from their semi-final win over Germany, Britain took a promising early lead...
From what I've heard he started wheeling and dealing fresh out of college.
👉kerbside
the side of the street or path near the kerb人行道靠近路缘的部份
to stand at the kerbside
