另外还有一种情况:代表fact、idea、hope这种名词具体内容的名词从句。fact等名词也会保留下来(删掉的话,句子意思就不清楚了)。这时,名词从句也拖在(fact等名词)后面。
例如:
I had no intention of buying one, but Icould not concealthe fact that I was impressed by the size of the diamonds.(《新概念3-28》)
我根本不想买,但钻石之大让我印象深刻,这一点我掩饰不住。
(intention意图、conceal隐藏)
在这个句子里,that I was impressed by the size of the diamonds就是本可以替换掉the fact的名词从句。但是为了句意清楚,我们还是选择保留the fact,因此就出现the fact that I was impressed …
