People become quite illogical when they try to decide what can be eaten and what cannot be eaten. Some food which would be considered to be repulsive by some peopel
would rather be regarded as a great delicay by the other people. The reason is that
most of us have been brought up to eat certian foods and we get accustomed to eating them. The following case of food concerns the common garden snail which has received both high praise and sharp criticism. Cooked in wine, snails remain universally popular
in most countries in the world. My friend Robert is a fanatical supporter of the snail dish. He lives in a country where snails are not favoured by people. As he has no garden of his own, Robert has been asking me to collect snails from my garden and take them to him. For years, I have not done what Robert has begged for. One day, after a heavy
shower, I happened to collect a bag of snails from my garden and took them to Robert. Of course, Rober was delighted with my little gift. Then Robert and I went into the living room where we talked for several hours. I had forgotten all about the snails when
Robert suddenly invited me to have snails for dinner. I took no interest in this idea and had to return back into the hall with him. Much to our astonishment, we found that the
snails had escaped from the paper bag and crept around the hall. Since that time, I
have never been able to look at a snail.
