Setting the scene
Science is probably humanity's greatest achievement. Scientific discoveries have changed the way we live. Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone that revolutionized the way we communicate. The Wright brothers invented the airplane that made long distance commuting easier. More recently, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have made desktop computing and iPhones part of our everyday life. It is nearly impossible to imagine living without them.
Almost everything that we encounter on a day-to-day basis is, in some way, related to science. Even when we are sleeping, science is there to explain why we need to sleep and what takes place while we are sleeping. Because of this, science education is essential to life. In this unit, you will learn the characteristics of science and how our daily life is related to science.
