1.Title:Why you should define your fears instead of your goals?
There is always some time when we need to make a choice: take action or do nothing. You may be afraid of taking action. And your fear prevents you from taking action.
The speaker created a written exercise to help you.
First, you should write down what causes your anxiety. Write down all the worst things you can imagine if you take that step. Then you should write down what you can do to prevent these worst things from happening. Also you should write down what you could do or ask for help if these things happen.
Next, you should write down what the benefits of taking action. Will you be more confident, develop new skills or otherwise?
Finally, you should also consider the cost of inaction.
After all of these considerations, you may realize that inaction is no longer an option for you.
I totally agree with the speaker. In my daily life, I often face this kind of decision. If I do nothing, nothing is going to change. If I take action, unknowns are waiting for me. But I'm not afraid of them because making changes gives me a sense of power.
What about you?
2.Title:What I learned from 100 days of rejection?
When the speaker was six years old, he had a terrible experience, which really hurt him. When he was fourteen years old, he had a big ambition, which was to build the biggest company in the world and buy Microsoft. But when he was thirty years old, he was far away from his dream.
He began thinking about the reasons and he found out that it was his fear of being rejected. He wanted to change this situation. After doing some research, he began to start a project.
In this project, he tried many different things and tried to learn how to react after rejection. on day 1, he wanted to borrow money from a stranger. After being rejected, he just ran away.
He watched his video many times, and he saw how scared he was in this video. He decided to stay instead of running away after being rejected in the future.
Things were getting better after that. He even became famous because of these videos. But he wanted to learn something from these experiences. He discovered some secrets behind these rejections.
First, you can turn a rejection into a miracle just by asking why.
Second, just by mentioning the doubt that people have may help you get trust from people.
Lastly, you can fulfill your dream just by asking others.
I like this sentence very much: Don't let the rejection define yourself, but let the reaction after rejection define yourself.
This video really impressed me a lot. In the past, I was also afraid of being rejected, but after watching this video, I began looking positively about rejection. I'm not afraid of being rejected any more.
How about you? How do you see rejection?
3.Title:why you should talk to strangers?
When talking about strangers, what is in your mind?
Most of us have been told that strangers are dangerous. Though the speaker admits that some strangers are dangerous, the speaker doesn't agree that this should be the reason why we shouldn't talk to strangers.
The speaker is obsessed with talking to strangers. To find out the reason, she even documented her experiences and she realized how beautiful it was talking with strangers.
We can use perception instead of fear to help us find out who we can talk to. According to the speaker, there are two benefits of doing this.
First, it can liberate us. We don't need to categorize people according to their age, gender or other things, but use our senses.
Second, it can give you fleeting intimacy. Some research even shows we are more honest and comfortable with strangers.
Because talking with strangers matters, how do we begin a conversation with a stranger? There are four ways recommended by the speaker.
You can make eye contact with strangers and then smile.
We can comment on the third things.
We can compliment their shoes, dogs or babies.
Disclose ourselves. Disclosure will build some intimacy between us.
Though I am not good at talking with strangers , I do agree with some opinions of the speaker. Most of the Strangers are good people. What we need is to improve our perception. We shouldn't let fear stop us from talking to strangers and enjoying some wonderful moments.
4.Title: The untapped genius that could change science for the better.
As a colored woman, the speaker met a lot of difficulties in becoming an astrophysicist. But her passion of pursuing her dream made her become the first PHD black woman student in Yale Universtity’s more than 312 years’ history. As a scientist in STEM, she strongly called on eliminating discrimination of colored women in STEM areas.
What impressed me most is the speaker’s passion for her dream and her ability of seizing opportunities.
