Day 12, 2017-01-30 Monday
278 words, 1.5 hours
(gonna use “she” “her” for Gumbie Cat’s pronouns)
The 4-minute musical scene introduces what Gumbie Cat is and what makes Jennyanydots one such cat. The moderator, a big “tall” tom with black and white and brown stripes, walks with stretched shoulders and long agile limbs, as he sings out the intro lyrics, main part of which is a praise of the old nan’s good deeds and warm character.
On the cue of the verses of either the solo or the chorus, Jennyanydots the Gumbie Cat demonstrates on stage when and why she does what she does. Despite the seeming age displayed in the more ragged coat, the slightly stumbling steps and the special voice of the elderly, she jumps and sprawls as cutely as a cat can get.
She is caring and full of spirit, and most of all, she is a doer. She lives her life as other three beautiful and modern-ish younger cats sing in soprano how she acts on her ideal and encourages the usually and justifiably alienated kind(i.e. the mice and the cockroaches) not to submit to defeat and to make a change instead. She even helps them find (or create) their own niche and we find ourselves suddenly in front of a neatly dressed group of decent beetles and disciplined army of mouse scout celebrating the reborn joy and sense of fulfillment with their dear Jennyanydots.
As naturally shown in the end, this nocturnal lot (the dozen of cats, the mouse scout, and the beetles) joins in the chorus to the jazz-and-tap dance on the stage. You can totally see in their eyes the warm affection they have for her (especially in tom’s) and in their every single devoted movement.
