We matter

When my daughter asked me last night about what do I do for living, to be honest, I some how didn’t know what to say. It looks like I am merely a sales man in a big company and what I do most is making call or writing email each and every day. And what I am 100% sure that everything that I told her about the equipment like chromatography or mass spectrometer is no more complicated than aliens or dinosaurs or universe. However, the truth is I AM important, we ARE important, at least in our eyes. Because we are serving the whole world to make our planet healthier, cleaner and safer.

What do you think if a soldier without his gun? What do you think if a doctor without his stethoscope? Yes, we are the one that produce the gun, the stethoscope. The great sign to distinguish an ape and a man is if he can use the tool. With the tool we sow, we hunt, we fish and we harvest. The tool had been another hand that help we accomplish all the evolution from animal to what we are. Now we are even traveling in to the universe to find other lives in another planet. We might no be the one that finish the job with his hands, we provide them tools that help him to do the work.

Yes Yes I totally understand what you think, a sales, a merchant, you sold but never wield. Then how about see it in another way? Without us the scientists might not get the knowledge at the first time. Without us the high-end equipment might not be brought into this country. Without us all the bidding process might not proceed. Without us the performance and the price might not be negotiated successfully with the plant. All what we do is to communicate, to connect both our client with the producer. The trade cannot work automatically.

Like our colleagues, I mean, the one sit in the lab and observe the reactions, the one with his eye protectors and screwdrivers,the one travels to present his posters. We all do our job with thought, with experience, with passion, and what’s most important, with professional spirit.  

That’s us, we matter.
