Yesterday morning Scott, a talented student who will be going to University of Toronto in September, 2017, revealed his approachof balancing study and life during an interview at school.
“Free time is important to people. People shouldhave the right to rule their own time,” Scott said, “they need time to dowhatever they want to do. For example, relax.” In Scott’s opinion, relaxing isessential to all human beings.
On top of that, he thought that studying could be entertaining when you find its link with life. He believes that the true purpose of studying is to lead a better life. So when you find that your life is becoming better and better, you will find the fun of studying. His own words proved that: “ English is a very important and beautiful subject. That’s because after learning English, I can write more beautiful essays. Also, when I watch movies, I can always find some literature devices.”
“ People just need certain percentage of their time to study and they will be good. I think if I use all the evening study time to study, I won’t need to use my free time to study anymore,” Scott said. Studying all the time would not provide a better result. The outcome of studying depends on the efficiency. The more efficient you are, the better result you will get. Relaxing is an important way to refresh yourself and thus increase your studying efficiency. So, studying all the time actually decreases your efficiency. Therefore, it would not provide you with a better result.
“When I have spare time, the first thing that comes into my mind is playing computer games. But sometimes if I have to study such as reviewing for exams, though I am not happy, I have no choice but to do it.” Moreover, Scott deemed that sacrificing spare time to study is very annoying. That’s definitely true because spare time is used for entertainment. Who would like to use that time to work or study?
“ Entertainment is more important because when you get enough entertainment, you will have more energy to study. People just need certain percentage of their time to study and they will be good.” Scott thought that it was critical to balance study and life. Students have to study, but they also have to relax. “People are not machines,” Scott said meaningfully.
