Business invest their profits into various aspects for the betterment of themselves. Many people feel that employees are the major contributors to success of their companies, the most important investment is to improve their skills, but is this really the case? As fas as I am concerned, improved skills of employees do not necessarily benefit companies and there are other better places where the money should go.
Improving employees' skills does not always guarantee that the employees will contribute more. In fact, they may even become unstable constituents of a company because of that. Once they feel that they are more skillful because of the training, they would expect higher salaries and positions. Yet their bosses are unlikely to satisfy them, for they have already invested money on their training. Without getting the reward that they feel they deserve, these better trained employees would probably become passive workers or even leave their companies for better positions elsewhere. If this happens, bosses are going to lose both their employees and the money they paid for their training.
Since the main purpose for most people to have jobs is to make employees more loyal and productive. If the salaries are considerable, employees who are capable will be satisfied, and being replaced by competitors from both inside and outside of their companies. Companies offering good salaries never lack contributors, but stingy bosses will encounter many ?unnecessary" problems because they refuse to offer what most competent employees truly care about -- good salaries.
Another effective way for companies to use their money is to better the office environment. Employees will be more willing to go to their office and enjoy their time there more if the environment is comfortable and satisfying, and even things like working overtime will seem to be much less difficult to accept, not to mention a better environment usually induces higher working efficiency. In addition, a good office environment will leave a good impression on everyone, especially clients who visit the company. No wonder many beauty salons renovate their places almost every year. From this perspective, food environment contributes to good business.
It is true that employees are the most important asserts of their companies, but improving their skills is not the best way to keep and to encourage them and only bosses who cab precisely tell what their employees really need have the best chance to succeed.
