Ben and his sister, Marie, visited their grandparents during the school holidays. On their first day, Ben decided to play with their grandfather’s slingshot in the garden. He practiced there all morning but could never hit the target. Getting a little disappointed, he headed back for lunch. As he was walking back, he noticed their grandmother’s clay rabbit.

Suddenly, he used the slingshot to hit the clay rabbit. It broke. Ben looked at the broken pieces for a while. In fear, he hid them. Marie had seen all of it from the window but she decided not to say anything. After lunch, their grandmother asked Marie to wash the dishes. Marie replied, “Grandma, Ben wants to help.”

Marie went up to Ben and said in a low voice, “I know about the clay rabbit.” Ben realized that his sister knew what he had done. He was afraid. If he did not listen to her, she would tell their grandparents about it. Without saying a word, he washed the dishes. Later that day, their grandfather invited the children to go fishing. But their grandmother said, “I’m sorry but I need Marie to help me prepare dinner.” Marie just smiled and said, “Ben told me he wanted to help you.”

Ben really didn’t want to stay behind to help but he kept quiet and nodded. Marie quickly went away with their grandfather. After a few days, Ben could not stand it any longer. Actually, Marie kept an eye on the changes about her brother. She came to Ben and encouraged him to have a talk with their grandmother. Ben went to their grandmother and confessed that he had broken the clay rabbit.

Ben smiled. He was happy again that he could finally enjoy the rest of his school holidays.
