Book Report of Beloved

When I first read this book, there were so many questions to me. Such as the background. And after searching for the American civil war, I'm getting to understand why Sethe acted like that.

The slavery of America deprived so many human rights of black people. White people mistreated black people, the slaves. Under this kind of pressure, black people were looking forward to freedom. On the other aspect, the experience of being slaves and being treated like animals left psychic trauma to black people.

Back to this fiction, when Sethe killed her kid, she had no other choice. She loved her kid so much that she couldn't give her kid the kind life she used to live. And with that kind of distorted mind, she made that choice.

I'm so lucky to live in the society which shares the same concepts of gender and racial equality. And there is no slavery in my life. From Sethe, I also see the spirit of fighting for freedom. In this information age, people can see and say so much. Freedom seems so much easier for us that we sometimes ignore it. Maybe there are other things we are focusing on. But no matter what, cherishing the good things we have now is really important.
