中文
随着电动汽车逐步取代燃油汽车,富裕国家电力消耗下降的趋势将会扭转,政策制定者需要确保有足够的发电能力来满足需求,尽管目前许多国家的监管系统还不完善。
我的译文
As electric cars are taking place internal combustion vehicles, the trend of decline for the electric power consumption in rich countries is also going to be reversed. Policy makers need enough power generation capacity to meet the demand, despite the still incomplete regulatory system in many countries.
经济学人原文
As the switch to electric cars reverses the trend in the rich world towards falling electricity consumption, policymakers will need to help, by ensuring that there is enough generating capacity—in spite of many countries’ broken system of regulation.
📌用词对比
👉switch to
If you switch to something different, for example to a different system, task, or subject of conversation, you change to it from what you were doing or saying before.
[V to n]Estonia is switching to a market economy...
[V from n to n]The law would encourage companies to switch from coal to cleaner fuels...
[V pl-n]The encouragement of a friend spurred Chris into switching jobs.[Also V]
[N-COUNT: usu with supp]Switch is also a noun.
New technology made a switch to oil possible... The spokesman implicitly condemned the United States policy switch.
[PHRASAL VERB]Switch over means the same as switch.
[Also V P] [V P to n]Everywhere communists are tending to switch over to social democracy.
👉reverse the trend
[rɪvɜ:(r)s]★reverses, reversing, reversed
[VERB]When someone or something reverses a decision, policy, or trend, they change it to the opposite decision, policy, or trend.
[V n]They have made it clear they will not reverse the decision to increase prices...
[V n]The rise, the first in 10 months, reversed the downward trend in Belgium's jobless rate.
可以看到原文中是没有出现「燃油车」这个词的,可见这是翻译在处理时的增译,但是这样处理明显更加符合中文语境,表意也更加明确。
switch用作名词,reverse用作动词,这是我之前不熟悉的用法,新技能get✔️
👉broken system of regulation
用broken来形容system还真是我没有想到的。broken比较多用来形容marriage和engagement, 破碎的婚姻和毁约了的婚约,难道原文是将system of regulation比作婚约了?
