How to solve the problem that "I've heard many philosophies, but still have a terrible life"? Here is the way.
I had many goals.
Most people have goals.
But many people only think about it, not do it, let alone persist in it.
A great philosopher of ancient Greek, Socrates once asked all his students to do a set of simple movements 300 times every day. (肢体语言:向前甩手,向后甩手)
One day passed, Socrates asked his students how many of you did it? All students raised their hands.
One month passed, the same question, 90% of the students raised their hands.
One year passed, this time only one raised his hand.
You can see most people can not persist, Neither could I.
When I was in college, I had many goals.
Once I wanted to form a good habit to get up early. I made up my mind to get up at 6:30 o'clock.
The first day, I woke up at 6:30 because of the alarm. 肢体语言:睡眼惺忪,关掉闹钟,继续睡觉
Nothing different happened, I went on sleeping until it was time to have lunch.
For the following days, I didn't make it.
I also wanted to practice English. I determined to join in the English Corner every time.
The first time, I made it. I chatted with some people. I still remember the first sentence I said: Good evening, what are you talking? I talked with them, even though I found it difficult to speak English.
While the second time didn't happen for 2 years.
I wanted to lose weight as well when I saw many people running on the playground. I imagined how slim I would be after losing weight. Wow! I look gorgeous, with big long legs.
I decided to run for 1 hour every day.
The first day, I made it. The second day, I only ran half an hour. The third day, I only walk 10 minutes. The fourth day, I made it (停顿) my last day of running.
I failed all with no persistence. Nothing changed.
Just not long before the end of my school life, I asked myself: What do I have? possibly nothing. I was distressed, then furious. I swore to the god I must persist in something to make a change.
I started to get up early at 6:30, and joined in the English morning reading to practice English, every day, no matter the weather. Even after my leave from school, I still got up early, and I chose to read English loudly instead.
I also started to lose weight again one year ago, I kept a diet and took exercise frequently, playing basketball or running.
It is the persistence that matters.
Geting up early for 700 days makes me full of self-control which is essencial to do anything.
Practicing English loudly for 700 days makes me speak more and more fluently. I even became an English teacher whose major was electronic engineering.
Exercising frequently for one year makes me lose 15 kilograms and so strong that I haven't had even a cold for 8 months.
Persistence made a difference to my life.
A wise philosopher named XunZi said: A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.
Persistence is the key to success.
Most people do have goals, and what they really need is persistence.
If you want to improve your oral English, speak more to practice, and persist.
If you want to become more confident, try to deliver speeches in public, and persist.
If you want to improve your English, become more confident, to be a good speaker leader all together, what u only need is to join Toastmaster to practice, and persist.
Just like a balloon, persistence will make you something big, and then you can fly in the sky that you want.
